Beast of Burden Summer Ultramarathon

Description

Get ready for the Summer Beast of Burden, an endurance challenge along the historic Erie Canal Towpath. Choose from the 100-mile, 50-mile, or 25-mile distance.

The race starts at Wide Waters Marina, offering access to showers, restrooms, and a fully stocked aid station. Runners follow the paved trail, cross a historic Lockport drawbridge, and continue along the Erie Canal Towpath.

With multiple fully stocked aid stations along the course, runners can refuel with water, Heed, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes, donuts, and more.

GLER 2026 Race Notes

The GLER GALEFORCE 12-Hour Race returns for its second season! All four races offer age-group recognition across Open, Masters, Senior Masters, and Ambassadors divisions.

Registration Policy: Refund requests will not be accepted after 11:59 PM on July 16, 2026. Race deferrals to 2027 are not available.

Awards: All race awards and finisher items must be collected on race day. Nothing will be mailed afterward.

Course

All races start and finish at GLER Race HQ at Tulip Hill Picnic Area above Green Lake.

The course features well-maintained single and double-track trails, grassy trails, dirt roads, and some asphalt, making it a highly runnable trail course with forest climbs, rolling meadows, and shaded lakeside sections.

Each fixed-distance loop is approximately 8 miles.

Registered entrants receive a race T-shirt when registered at least 14 days before race day. Finishers receive a medal, GLER coffee cup or pint glass, and bumper sticker.

Course Time Limits

Fixed-distance races have until 9:00 PM to finish. Final loops must begin by 6:45 PM, and runners starting late may need their own light.

The GALEFORCE 12-Hour Race runs from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with racers completing as many 3-mile loops as possible. Any loop finished after 7:00 PM will not count.

The Winter Beast of Burden is a true test of ultra-running endurance. Starting at Wide Waters Marina in Lockport, New York, athletes will run along the Erie Canal towpath, crossing a historic drawbridge and traveling to the turnaround point.

Runners have access to restrooms, showers, warming shelters, and fully stocked aid stations featuring hot cocoa, coffee, soup, pizza, grilled cheese, pancakes, donuts, and more.
