About One Average Runner: Upstate New York Ultramarathon Organizers
Every runner has a story, and every finish line begins with a single step. One Average Runner is an ultramarathon race organizer based in Upstate New York, creating endurance events that inspire runners of all abilities to challenge themselves, explore new trails, and reach goals they once thought impossible.
From organizing premier ultramarathons across Upstate New York to sharing practical training advice and authentic race stories, our mission is to help runners grow stronger physically, mentally, and as part of a supportive community. Whether you are preparing for your first race or your next ultramarathon, you will find the encouragement, knowledge, and opportunities to keep moving forward.
Our Story: Upstate New York Ultramarathons
One Average Runner was founded in 2015 by Tim Hardy with a simple idea: ultramarathons should be open to every runner, not just the fastest. What began as a small effort to build races where everyone feels welcome has grown into a trusted Upstate New York ultramarathon organizer, with two race series, more than 10 events, and over 1,000 finishers.
Under Tim’s leadership, we built the Beast of Burden and Green Lakes series around what runners value most: well-marked courses, supportive volunteers, and a community that celebrates every finish, whether it comes first or last.
We believe you do not need to be elite to take on an ultramarathon. You need preparation, good support on course, and people who cheer for you at every mile. That belief still shapes every race we organize today.

Tim Hardy, Founder & Owner
Tim Hardy founded One Average Runner in 2015 and leads every event we organize, from the Beast of Burden ultramarathons to the Green Lakes endurance races. Under his direction, the team has delivered more than 10 races and welcomed over 1,000 finishers across Upstate New York.
Theodore, Volunteer & Aid Station Coordinator
Theodore recruits, trains, and organizes the volunteers who keep every aid station stocked and every runner moving. A familiar face at our aid stations, Theodore knows exactly what runners need when the miles get long.
David, Course & Safety Lead
David plans and marks our courses and coordinates race-day safety so runners can focus on the trail. David knows our trails well and approaches every course with safety and the runner experience in mind. Their priority is simple: well-marked courses and a safe, confident experience for every runner.
The Values That Drive Every Mile
Everything we do is guided by the values that make endurance running more rewarding and every race more memorable.
ENDURANCE
We create races, training resources, and experiences that inspire runners to build strength, resilience, and confidence. Every mile is an opportunity to challenge limits, celebrate progress, and achieve new endurance goals.
COMMUNITY
Our events bring together volunteers, first-time runners, and experienced ultrarunners in a welcoming environment. Together, we celebrate every achievement, encourage every journey, and inspire one another to keep moving forward.
ADVENTURE
Every race offers a unique adventure through scenic trails, challenging courses, and unforgettable landscapes. We believe every finish line should inspire exploration, personal growth, and memories that last long after race day.
